Dr. Reginald Chapman Jr.’s solo on his original tune Hoodie from the album Prototype (2018). Reggie is known for having brought jazz bass trombone in touch with the genres of fusion and brass band (street band). His debut hip-hop album Prototype sent a ripple through the bass trombone world and this solo from the most popular track shows exactly why. Hoodie was my very first transcription as a jazz trombonist and deeply affected my sense of style, articulation, and time feel. This solo was performed on an independent valve setup.
